Empowering Climate Champions: Building Farmer Resilience through Technology Transfer and Community Action

A capacity building and awareness webinar titled 'Empowering Climate Champions: Building Farmer Resilience through Technology Transfer and Community Action' was organized on February 10, 2025. Supported by the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) and organized by the South Asian Forum for Environment (SAFE) in association with the Progyan Foundation for Research and Innovation (PFRI), the webinar served as a crucial platform for enhancing farmer knowledge and building institutional capacity for climate-resilient agricultural practices across India's vulnerable districts
The event brought together agricultural extension officers, climate adaptation specialists, farmer leaders, and rural development practitioners from across India to discuss capacity enhancement strategies, technology transfer mechanisms, and community mobilization approaches for climate adaptation in agriculture.

Significant knowledge transfer gaps between climate-resilient agricultural technologies and farmer adoption, indicating need for enhanced demonstration approaches and follow-up support mechanisms in vulnerable farming communities.

Climate-resilient variety adoption shows promising potential among participating farmers for crop diversification techniques, with notable improvements observed in drought-tolerant and saline-resistant crops through participatory demonstration and peer learning networks.

Community-based institutions emerge as critical platforms for technology transfer and climate risk management, while village-level committees provide effective governance structures for collective adaptation planning and resource management.

Capacity building gaps persist in climate information interpretation and market integration strategies, with extension personnel requiring enhanced training in digital agriculture tools and climate service delivery methodologies for remote farming areas.

Gender-inclusive training approaches show significant potential for enhancing household resilience, highlighting the importance of women-focused climate adaptation programs and leadership development initiatives in agricultural communities.

The outcomes of the project are expected to strengthen India's agricultural knowledge systems and enhance farmer preparedness for climate variability through improved technology transfer and community-based adaptation strategies.
